Our original idea was to link youth work workshop providers to youth work professionals. However after researching and speaking to lots of people we decided to broaden the scope to include our cousins in play and community work and to include training and consultancy too. Like us, maybe you are bored of the same old DJ workshops, paintballing trips or days to Alton Towers that always seem to be offered to young people? We wanted to find new, innovative and exciting workshops to offer but struggled to. We found some freelancers through word of mouth recommendations, but most of the time our budget couldn’t afford them! Then suddenly an ex-colleague left the comfort of council employment and started her own business delivering drama workshops. She charged reasonable rates of £300 per day but interestingly said that on some days she would work for 50% of her normal fee - as if she didn’t work on that day the income was effectively lost forever. She would rather work for a bit less - especially when she was starting out as she needed to get her innovative ways of working out there. We thought that if we had a directory where hundreds of freelancers could let thousands of youth professionals know what they offered, how much they charged and when they would be prepared to negotiate the costs then maybe more young people could benefit. The site is free to browse and find quailty youth, community and play workshops and it is free to make an entry. In the future as the site grows you'll be able to search my geographic area; Midlands, North West, South East etc and then by category; Drama, Music etc. If you find a provider that you really like but it is not listed in your area just send them an email or call them and ask if they'll come to your area - chances are they'd love to. They are just waiting to be asked. Community Feel We want the site to have a community feel to it, so you have the ability to Rate and Review the worskhops once you've sampled them. We just ask you to be honest and measured with your comments and please don't abuse this resource by giving someone a bad review just because they wouldn't accept your offer of a drink after the workshop!! Similarly please don't give a friend glowing reviews to boost their business. And definitely don't rate yourself... if you do, we'll kick you off, we are borrowing from the Ebay principles of trust. Forum We also have a forum where you can network, discuss, debate and recommend to each other. If you have a tight budget but you need a workshop, why not put a posting up on our Book a Freelancer Forum . Who knows, there may be a freelancer who would rather earn some money rather than earn nothing on that day? We know that it works as people have already contacted us to say they have used the Forum to find a workshop to match the limited budget they have. We hope you enjoy the site and most of all find it useful. If you have any suggestions, comments constructive criticism, then please feel free to contact us on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it We have lots of ideas in the pipeline. One last thing, for this website to work and be a valuable long lasting tool we need lots of people to use it. Can you please forward this site to all your colleagues and all the freelancers you know and get them to take advantage of what's on offer? Thanks |
